Founded in April 1957, Shanghai Animation Film Studio is China’s largest animation production base. With a registered capital of 12.46 million yuan (US$1.52 million), it is an institution of producing a variety of movie and culture products. The studio produces and distributes animation and children’s film, publishes animation books, magazines and media tapes. In addition it also develops copyright authority and kids’ cartoon clothes, toys and stationary.

Shanghai Animation Film Studio has a number of professional employees, ranging from screenwriters, directors, animation designers, cameramen, composers to technical experts, most of whom are well-known in the animation circle.

The most outstanding animation film works during the past 50 years include ``Uproar in Heaven,’’ ``The Cowboy’s Flute,’’ ``Three Monks’’ and ``Lotus Lantern,’’ which have gained reputations awards home and abroad. The nearly 200 awards include ``Golden Prize Award’’ from Denmark Odense Fairytale Film Festival, ``Silver Bear’’ from Berlin International Film Festival。

COMPANY INTRODUCTION

The studio has cooperated with production companies from France, Germany, the United States, Japan, Canada and Australia. The co-productive works include cartoon TV series and movies, such as “Fox Liena,” “Noah’s Ark”, “To Shoot without Shooting,” “Around the World in 80 Days,” “Ketchup,” “Miss Mallard Mystery” and ``Tracey•McBean.’’.

Shanghai Animation Film Studio has a mature network for movie distribution. It has distributed animation films to Southeast Asia and Euro-American market. Its renowned television column ``Cartoon King’’ has been broadcast in nearly 30 television stations throughout China.

Shanghai Animation Film Studio is composed of Shanghai YILIMEI Animation Ltd. Company, Shanghai Cartoon Culture Developing Ltd. Company, “Cartoon King’’ Magazine Agency, Shanghai Animation Movies Special Training School and Shanghai Animation Movies Drawing Studio.

In order to improve Chinese animation industry, the studio offers services on movie & TV production, commercials production, image design, cartoon products research as well as training of animation designers.
